BCHS History

Bolivar Central High School moved to its present location in 1950; at this time, it became a 7-12 grade school. During the 1950s, Central added students from several of the county's smaller communities, and the seventh and eighth grade students were placed on another campus. By 1961, Central had become a 9-12 school. In 1970, the county completed its desegregation plan and consolidated its six high schools into two - Bolivar Central High School and Middleton High School. The ninth grade moved to a new junior high school, leaving Bolivar Central with grades 10-12 until 1998-99 when the ninth grade once again returned to Bolivar Central. The student population of Bolivar Central High School grew from 667 in 1997-98 to 945 in1998-99 with the addition of grade 9. In preparation for this increased enrollment, the system built 20 additional classrooms, two labs and expanded the cafeteria. This new building phase represents the third major addition to the original structure.
